29 and 30/8/10 France

After our hike to Italy (sounds impressive doesn't it?!), we took a day off to hang in the village, relax and come up with a plan for the next few days. We decided to head to les Praz de Chamonix and take the cable car (called the telepherique here) up a steep mountain side to gain access to the Tour du Mont Blanc at Chalet de la Flegere. Unfortunately, we drove 2 hours to get to the base of the telepherique only to be greeted by rain and a forecast of 40kph winds and temps of 2 degrees Celsius where we wanted to head. It was a bit disheartening but we decided to pull the pin and drive the two hours back to our friends' place to wait for better weather. On the way back, we saw some awesome glaciers along the road and we stopped in les Trois Vallees (particularly Meribel), where the olympics were in 1992 to check out the ski jumps, which were way bigger and steeper than they look here. Much to Jeff's amusement we passed through a town called Pussy, which is next door to a town that looked like it was called douche to us.
