Yoho - Lake O'Hara and Alpine Circuit Hike

Lake O'Hara

During a visit to the Yoho Visitor's Center, we were lucky enough to score a backcountry site at the Lake O'Hara CG.  According to the ranger, these book up within minutes of the reservation line opening each spring.  The only way to get to Lake O'Hara is to hike in the long road (~7 miles) or to take the shuttle, which also books out for the summer within minutes.  Needless to say, we were lucky to score a spot when a cancellation came in as we were standing at the counter.  Wow.  They limit the people because the area is so beautiful that it would be trampled to death if they didn't.  We got an afternoon shuttle in (a spot on the shuttle comes with a spot in the CG) and then the next day, got up to hike the Alpine Circuit (7.5mi and ~2000 ft gain).  This was hands down the most beautiful hike of our summer.
