Santiago, Chile

There were armed police everywhere
on Labor Day to control crowds.

The mausoleums in
Chile are crazy!
Statues in the giant city
cemetery.
A neat old building in a
central area of town

After checking out the volcanoes east of Osorno, we drove back to Puerto Varas and took an overnight bus up to Santiago for our flight home.  We spent a few days in Santiago, which were a few days too many in my opinion.  One day would have been plenty. The city is a mix of a fancy new downtown with modern skyscrapers, beautiful old architecture and too much pavement.  Oh well, I am not a city girl so not suprising this wasn't my favorite part of the trip.
One of the more modern
buildings in Santiago

The only place we could find that was even
open on a unexpected public holiday.
