Thingvellir and Gulfoss, Iceland May 27th

Best bathroom view around at
Thingvellir.
Decending into the Almannaga, the
biggest of the mid-Atlantic
ridge cracks at Thingvellir.
Lady Killer. Just to clarify I guess.
Day two and feeling more human, we headed off on the "Golden Circle", the loop of main tourist sights outside the capitol.  At Thingvellir, you can walk down into a large crack that is the divide between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates (the mid-Atlantic ridge comes to the surface here).  Awesome for three dorky Geologists.  Unfortunately a gale force wind was blowing and I couldn't feel my face due to the wind chill most of the day.  Thankfully, Icelanders have anticipated that stupid tourists who visit in spring will think it may be warmish and sell mittens and various other warm stuff for the mere price of one mortgage payment.  After Thingvellir, we headed to Geysir (as in THE original one), which was a bit underwhelming.  Finished of the night at Gullfoss, which is a huge thundering waterfall reminiscent of Niagara Falls.

Most of the roads into the highlands
were closed.  Bummer.
Langjokull ice cap in western central Iceland.
