t sunrise. This time we paired up some Dutch folks who'd gotten savvy to the tourist rip-off prices you get when you pre-book and organised a tour with a local guy with a jeep. We climbed up the mountain in mist but thankfully, it cleared and we got some nice views of the scenery.
After taking in the views, we caught the 9:30am clown mini-bus down the mountain and then another "luxury" (ie fewer people staring at you) bus to Surabaya for the flight out of Indonesia.
On the way, the bus driver's assistant passed out little boxes of something warm to everyone and extracted due payment. Trouble was, the description was in Indonesian and the contents were green and jiggly. The outside is kind of rubbery and once you chew, the thing pops and out spurts juice. Freaked us out at first but then we figured out that it was some sort of dessert rather than battered goat eyeball. Turns out it's a local treat of rice dough with palm sugar inside and coconut coating on the outside.
