21/7/10 Lovina and leaving Bali

Well, Lovina didn't really turn out to be what we were searching for, mostly because it's so hot and you can't leave the hotel grounds without 10 hawkers chasing you. There are lots of spas but they were pushing vagina steaming (I'm serious) which made me want to run away.
So, we decided to rent another motorcycle (hoping for no more encounters with “the man”) and check out the northern mountains. Jeff got the largest helmet ever and we were off.

The mountains were great and what a lunch spot! It's clove harvest time and there were cloves out drying everywhere we looked and they smelled wonderful. There were also lots of fellas in trees picking the cloves. The preferred method seems to be to get yourself a long piece of bamboo, pound a few short sticks into it, tie it off to whatever is around and shimmy up the thing. Some seriously amazing balance on display here – these guys are way up in the trees!

Tonight we are taking the overnight “luxury” bus to Java. This is pretty much the only way to get there but I have some doubts about the luxury part and also about where we will end up. The guy who sold us the ticket assures us we are headed straight to Bondowoso on the same bus we start out on but there's ocean to cross and language barriers to get around. Hoping we don't end up in Jakarta...
