We eventually ended up in the "town" of Bermudian Landing in central Belize for a night. We stopped here hoping to see and hear some Howler Monkeys. The jungle is right on your doorstep and you can take night tours to see the wildlife. We heard nothing but did manage to spot a few monkeys along the road on our way out of town. From there we headed to the ruins at Altun Ha, in northern Belize.

Altun Ha was nice but busy as it's within the day trip range of the cruises that come to Belize City. Worth a look if you are in the area but try to time it on a day there are no ships at port.

From Altun Ha, we headed to Corozal on the north coast. We stayed at a place with an amazing pool and a family pet that is a coatimundi. I think he smelled my fear, or maybe just the snacks we had stashed in the room. There is no beach to speak of at Corozal and overall we were a bit underwhelmed. One thing you SHOULD do if you make it to northern Belize is stop off in Orange Walk and eat from the street vendors at the central market place. We ate there twice (once on the way north and once on the way south) and the food was great and cheap. Orange Walk is hot and busy but the food is worth it if you're in the hood.
