Cape Royds

Cape Royds was due for a review of the Antarctic Specially Protected Area (ASPA) located there and so I headed there via helicopter, which never gets old really.  You know what else never gets old?  Penguins.  There are a lot of them at Cape Royds and Shackleton's historic hut to boot.
Shackleton's axe?

On the way, the helo pilot took us by this axe that is stuck in the rock on a hill above Cape Royds.  The story is that it's an axe of Shackleton's that was left behind.  Having trouble verifying that so I'm just going to go with it.  It's a cool visual to see that axe way out in the middle of nowhere.
