The end of the Glacier NP season

Iceberg Lake - no icebergs this late
in the season.
After all the visitors left and we were just wrapping up the season, I spent a weekend at Many Glacier so I could hike some of the area's more famous trails.  The timing was mostly because the trails had been closed due to bears a lot of the summer but the added bonus was that there was virtually no one else around - and this on trails that were packed to the gills with people a month ago.  We did a big day to Ptarmigan Tunnel and then took the side trail to Iceberg Lake too.  The hike to Ptarmigan is about 10.7 miles roundtrip and 2300ft of gain.  The side trip to Iceberg adds 4.2 miles and 400ft of gain to the effort.  These are amazing hikes.  Fall is the time to do it if you can brave the cold - the colors were fantastic and no bugs!
