Young-Wilkin Circuit Hike

Scouting for a place to cross the river.
Young River Valley
We were looking for a backpack trip and Jez, who lived in NZ for a while recommended the 58km Wilkin/Young circuit.  Most people take a jet boat across the Makarora River and start up the Wilkin valley.  Those with a bit more cash and less time get flown into the Siberia Valley at the top, walk a few miles and then take a jet boat back out via the Young River.  Those with more time than money avoid jet boats and planes and fjord the rivers themselves.  This hike involved the deepest and coldest river crossing as well as the most river crossings I've done with a hefty pack.  We parked our car at the end of the Young River Valley and hitched to the start of the Wilking River valley and stayed in Young and Siberia huts.  The scenery was stunning and we had the place to ourselves for 3 days with the exception of the very top at Siberia hut where the tourists fly in....
