Mt. Cook/Aoraki National Park

Mt. Cook!  What a stunner.  It'd been a while since we'd been here and I'd forgotten how stunning it was.  The road in follows along Lake Pukaki, which is light blue from all the glacier silt.  We planned to camp in the DOC campground at the head of the valley but it was packed and total chaos so we opted for a slightly more expensive private place on the road along the way into the valley.  Stayed two nights and hiked as much as we could before more torrential rain set in (the results of a cyclone- yay).  The clear day we had was glorious and we managed a hike to Mueller hut.  It's awesome there but the hut is pretty much always full so we did a day hike.  It's only 10.4 km round trip but it's steep and felt like more to me.  Totally worth the sweat!
